Math
Students will gain exposure to and master new concepts through the University of Chicago’s Everyday Math program. This program is aligned to the Common Core State Standards.
Fact Mastery Expectations:
All students are expected to have mastery of their addition and subtraction facts, by the end of the first term. To be considered fluent, students should be able to answer each fact in 3 seconds or less.
Students are expected to develop mastery of their multiplication and division facts, through the 12's, by the end of the year. Again, children are expected to answer facts within 3 seconds.
Please set aside regular time for practice of math facts, to develop and maintain automaticity. See this page for some fun online math games.
Spelling
Students are given a Weekly Pretest on Mondays, and create a word list for the week. Spelling lists are differentiated, according to the results of the Pretest; thus, each student's spelling list may be different. Students take a Spelling Test on Fridays, according to their ten-word list.
Spelling homework expectations are on the front inside cover of their spelling notebooks.
